Genesis: Noah
Noah was 500 years old when his sons Shem, Ham and Japheth were born.
When man began to multiply and have fair daughters, the sons of God took the women they liked: God said, My spirit will not always strive with man, he is but flesh and his days will be 120 years.
There were giants in the earth then, born from the sons of God and the daughters of men, they were well known mighty men. When God saw how wicked the earth had become, that all their heart’s imaginations were continuously evil, He was sorry in his heart; He said, I will destroy every living thing on earth because it was corrupt and filled with cruelty.
Noah found grace in the eyes of God. He was an honorable man in his time and walked with God. He told him of his plans and instructed him on how to build an ark. Noah was to load two of all flesh, male and female; clean beasts and fowls by sevens and unclean by couples.
Noah was 600 years old when the heavens opened and the flood waters came, taking 7 days to cover the earth. It rained for 40 days and 40 nights; any flesh that moved upon the dry land had perished. The waters prevailed for 150 days when God remembered Noah. He made a wind, the waters ceased and the rain from heaven was restrained. In the 7th month, 17th day, the ark rested in the mountains of Ararat. In the 10th month, 1st day, the tops of mountains were seen. In the 601st year, 1st day of the 1st month, the waters were dried up. In the 2nd month, 27th day, the earth was dry.
Noah sent out a dove who returned to the ark; 7 days later he sent it out again – it returned with an olive branch in her mouth and 7 days later when released, it never returned.
Noah, his wife, his sons, their wives and all the animals exited the ark as God said, go forth and multiply. Noah built an alter and took of every clean beast and fowl and offered burnt offerings to the Lord. The Lord smelled of it and said in his heart, I will never kill all living things again, as I have done. “…seed time and harvest cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night shall not cease, as long as the earth remains.” God made a covenant with Noah and every living thing for perpetual generations, that there would be no more floods to destroy all flesh. He would place his bow in the clouds as a reminder of his everlasting covenant with Noah.
Noah became a husband man and planted a vineyard. He was drunk from the wine and lay uncovered in his tent. His son, Ham saw his father and told his two brothers; they placed a garment on their shoulders and walked backwards to cover their father. When Noah woke, he knew what Ham had done and cursed his [Ham’s] son, Canaan, to be a servant of all servants to Shem and Japheth.
Noah lived 350 years after the flood and died at 950 years old. Out of Noah’s people, the nations were divided after the flood.
These are the generations of Noah:
Japheth had sons named Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech and Tiras. Gomer had sons named Ashkenaz, Riphath and Togarmah. The sons of Javan were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, Dodanim.
Ham had a son named Cush, Mizraim, Put and Cannan. The sons of Cush were Seba, Hauilah, Sabtah, Sabtecha, Raamah and Nimrod [a mighty hunter]; Raamah had two sons named Sheba and Dedan. The beginning of his kingdom was Babel, Erech, Accad, Calneh and the land of Shinar, Asshur, Niniueh and the city of Rehoboth and Calah. Resen was between Niniueh and Calah.
Mizraim [Ham’s son] had sons named Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim, Pathrusim, Casluhim, Caphtorims and Canaan.
Canaan’s first born was Zidon and Heth, Jesbusi, Emori, Girgashi, Hivi, Arkim Sini, Aruadi, Zemari and Hamathi; these were the Canaanites who spread abroad.
Shem was the father of all the sons of Eber; also, sons named Elam and Asshur, Arpachshad [two years after the flood, Shem was 100 years old], Lud and Aram; Aram had sons, Uz, Hul, Gether and Mash. Arpachshad [at 35 years old] had a son named Shelah [at 30 years old] who had a son named Eber. Eber [at 34 years old] had two sons, Peleg [ in his days the earth was divided] and Joktan. Peleg [at 30 years old] had a son, Reu. Reu [at 32 years old had a son, Serug. Serug [at 30 years old] had s son named, Nahor. Nahor [at 29 years old] had a son named Terah. Joktan had Amodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaueth, Jarah, Hadoran and Vzal, Dicklah, Obal, Abimeal, Sheba, Ophir, Hauilah, and Jobab; he and his sons lived from Mesha into Sephar in the east.
Shem died at 600 years old; Aprachshad at 438 years old; Shelah at 433 years old; Eber at 464 years old; Peleg at 239 years old; Reu at 239 years old; Serug at 230 years old; Nahor at 148 years old; Terah at 205 years old.
As these generations went from the east, they found plains in Shinar, where they made their home. They all spoke the same language and planned to use brick/stone and slime/mortar to build a city and a tower to reach the heavens. God saw this and said, I will go down and confound their speech and scatter them over the earth; The city was named Babel.
