David’s son, Amnon

David had a herd of kids by a herd of different women.

This is the story of one of them…

David had a son named Absalom, who had a sister named Tamar.

Well, David’s other son, Amnon was in love with her.

You still with me?… two sons, different mothers, same father.

Tamar was a virgin, which was signified by a colorful outfit she wore.

Amnon was sick over the fact that he could do nothing about loving her. He had a friend named Jonadab, who was David’s nephew, and he’s described as a “subtle” man. Well, he comes to Amnon and asks him why he is getting skinnier by the day and Amnon says it’s because he loves Tamar but she is his brother’s sister.

Well, Jonadab comes up with an idea for Amnon to pretend to be sick and ask his daddy to send Tamar to feed him. Amnon does and Tamar comes and makes him some cakes and Amnon still won’t eat. He tells her to have everyone leave his room and for her to bring him some meat so he may eat from her hand (weird, right.)

So Tamar does so and when she brings him the food, he takes her and says, “come lay with me, sister.”

She’s like, HELL NAW! Don’t force me, its a sin! I’ll feel shame and you’ll be a fool.

Amnon gets pissed off and being stronger than her, he rapes her.

Afterwards, he can’t stand her. It says that his hatred for her was greater than his love for her… He tells her to get out and she says, the way you’re treating me is worse than what you did to me. He calls for his servants and has her removed and they lock the door behind her.

Tamar puts ashes on her head, takes off her colorful outfit and leaves crying.

Absalom sees her and asks if her brother had sex with her.. he says, “be still: he is your brother, don’t let this grieve your heart.”

Tamar remained desolate in Absalom’s house.

When her daddy heard, he was pissed.. [but he didn’t do anything, which is crazy to me!] Absalom didn’t say anything to his brother but he hated him for what he’d done.

Two years later, they go to Baal-hazor to shear sheep and Absalom asks all his brothers to come along and he asks David if Amnon can go too. At first, David says no but eventually agrees.

Amnon comes along but before hand, Absalom had told his servants that when Amnon gets drunk and he says, kill him… kill him.

They did so and then they all got on their mules and hauled ass.

Well, it gets back to David that Absalom has killed all his sons and there was no one left alive and Absalom had fled to Talmai, who was King of Geshur.

David tore off his clothes and laid on the ground. Then, Jonadab comes and tells David that only Amnon was dead, because of what he did to Tamar.

Bout this time, the watchmen look up and see all of David’s sons coming. Everyone but Absalom and Amnon.

For 3 years, he didn’t go look for him or ask him to come home. It says that he mourned Absalom and was comforted that Amnon was dead.

Joab sees this and has a woman go to David with a very similar story about being a widow with 2 sons, who had fought in field and one killed the other and the people wanted to kill the son who lived… yadda yadda and they talk for a while and she ends up asking him why he wouldn’t bring back those banished…

David asks her if after their conversation if Joab had sent her and she of course tells on him and says, it was with the intent that he would hear it in a different form.

David tells Joab, I did this. Go and bring Absalom home BUT tell him to go to his own home and not see my face. [which I still don’t understand but anyway]

It talks for a minute about the beauty of Absalom and how from the sole of his foot to the top of his head, there wasn’t a blemish on him and he had a thick head of hair.. I’m not sure why this is in there, but it is.

So, Absalom is back in Jerusalem for 2 years and still hadn’t seen his dad. He sends for Joab twice, so that he can go talk to David about seeing him, but Joab ignores him.

Ol Absalom sends his servants to burn Joab’s field of barley and they do. Joab comes over to ask him why the hell he did that and Absalom says, I wanted you to go talk to my dad and you ignored me so that’s why. [Gahlee] He says, Why did I come back here if my daddy won’t even see me? If he feels any type of way, let him kill me.

Joab goes and tells David, who calls for Absalom and when his son gets there, he kisses him.

Absalom goes on to judge the people of Israel and that’s where I’m at currently.

This was just another story I was in shock by David’s actions and why he didn’t kill his son when he found out he had raped his daughter. WHAT IS HAPPENING.

In the beginning, I was team David because he was just a little dweeb who rose to be King.. the under dog… but now, I can’t wait to see how he dies. Hoping the coming chapters don’t disappoint!

Alright, Byeluhyou.
