Castor Oil
To preface, I’ve always had issues with cystic breasts, which the doctors say is from caffeine intake because I love a good cold mountain dew! A few years ago, they were becoming so large and painful that I had no choice but to cut way back on my caffeine intake, which helped but they never fully went away. And, as one does with bad habits, it wasn’t long before I was back on the dew wagon and the cysts were angrier than ever!
I had heard a herbalist discuss the oil’s healing properties when it comes to drawing out impurities. I believe she said, “lumps, bumps and knots!”
To start, I used a caster oil poultice: All you need –
- Cotton Rag/Cloth [*when it comes to your skin, cotton is always best]
- Plastic Wrap
- Pure Caster Oil
- Heating pad or hot sock
- If you don’t have a heating pad, you can put white rice in an old tube sock, tie it off and heat it for 30 second intervals in the microwave. It last forever and you just reheat as needed.
The first night I made this compress, I was having so much pain in my right breast that I stumbled to the bathroom and dug out the caster oil with no regard for ill effects! Nothing was helping alleviate the pain, so I was desperate! That night, I used one of those thin maxi pads, it was super absorbent and held the oil well! [Remember, if it works, it ain’t dumb!]
I put the caster oil on the pad, covered it in saran wrap and left enough on the sides to help it adhere (the heat from the pad will do a pretty good job sealing it to your skin but you can use tape if it moves!) I went back to bed with the maxi pad stuck to the saran wrap, topped with the heating pad on high and slept with it in place.
Ya’ll! I could not believe that the pain was almost unnoticeable when I woke up! Of course after a few flips, the pad was no where near it’s original location [ha!] but it had worked! I could still palpate the cysts but the pain was fractional.
I did this for 3 or 4 days and I could tell a difference in the size of the cyst and I had no pain at all! And KNOCK ON WOOD, I haven’t had any issues since! I thought surely it can’t be this simple. I wanted to know more and more about its capabilities.
Since then, I’ve found numerous uses for it!
As always, anyone can be allergic and not everyone can use products successfully or without irritation but in my case, there has been no negative side effects when used in the following ways.
- Eyes – An elderly lady mentioned that rubbing a little caster oil on your eye lid will decrease the chances of glaucoma and stop formation/progression of cataracts. The best side effect was the growth of my lashes! I’ve never had full lashes and use to wear falsies, but not anymore. They seem fuller and are positively longer!
- Routine skin care – I’ve tried many remedies to try to increase hydration, especially on my face. The beef tallow caused breakouts and the hyaluronic acid seemed to dry my face out, making my wrinkles more prevalent. Using caster oil hydrates while I sleep and helps moisturizer last all day. In this cold weather, it has been a game changer!
- Boils/Ingrown hairs – I suffered with hidradenitis for a long time and still have flare ups on occasion: A little caster oil after a hot shower and the next day, the infection has surfaced if not expelled. A little more for a day or two and all the redness and irritation has subsided.
- Abdominal poultice for bloating or GI problems. I never know if I’m going to poop regularly or not for a week. When my stomach starts looking ‘first trimester’-ish I rub some on my stomach before bed and sleep with the heating pad for a few hours. Girl, don’t knock it till you try it! Because it works!
Caster Oil is also a great vessel for spices that aid in many health remedies! Making a poultice with cayenne pepper and caster oil is like a natural bengay, decreasing pain and inflammation! Be careful with this one because it can burn the skin in sensitive areas. A little on the soles of your feet before bed will work wonders! Cayenne pepper needs its own book, so I won’t start here but I’m certain it will make it’s debut!
I love learning new ways to use it and keep a bottle on hand! I’d never consume it by mouth [although some do] but the external benefits are something worth looking into! As always, do your own research and find what works for you!
Leave a comment if you have any caster oil remedies!
Disclaimer: I am a believer that everything we need can be provided outside of pharmaceutical companies and my goal is to gain the knowledge to safely use each and every one of them! Caster oil is high in ricinoleic acid and comes from seeds. How much more natural can you get!?
Happy Healing!
