I Genesis: Creation
This is the creation of earth and it’s people.
The earth was without form, void and dark. The Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. He created a firmament, “dividing the water from the waters,” from above and under. He called this firmament, heaven. Inside this firmament, God created light within the firmament; a great light for the day and lesser for the night saying, “Let them be for signs, for seasons, for days and for years.” He gathered the waters and called them seas and the dry land called, earth. God created creatures both large and small to fill the seas and flying fowl to fill the heavens. He created every beast after their kind and cattle after their kind, every creeping thing on earth, He created. God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness…” and he will have dominion over everything that lives on this earth. God gave the earth every herb bearing seed, every tree yielding seed, every beast, every fowl and every creeping thing he gave for meat. God spent 6 days creating the earth and heavens; He sanctified the 7th day, as a day of rest.
The generations of heaven and earth:
There had been no rain to water the herbs and no man to till the ground. A midst came up and watered the surface of the earth and God used dust to create man. He formed man and breathed the breath of life into his face, creating a living soul, He named Adam. Adam gave names to every cattle, beast of the field, and fowl of the heavens; every living creature he named but no ‘help meet’ was found for Adam. God caused Adam to fall into a deep sleep, He removed Adam’s rib and made woman; Adam named her woman because she was taken out of man, saying, “…this now is bone of my bones, flesh of my flesh.” God said, if man leaves his father and mother, he shall cleave to his wife, they shall be one flesh. She was later named, Eve/Heuah [mother of all living.] God placed them into a garden east of Eden, where he placed every tree for looks and meat. The garden was watered by a river from Eden which came to four heads.
-Pishon, in the land of Hauilah; there was gold, bdellium [resin/essential oil] and onyx.
-Gihon, in the land of Cush.
-Hiddekel, toward the eastside of Asshur.
-Perath.
In the center of the garden was the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Adam and Eve were allowed to eat from all except the tree of knowledge for ‘in the day that thou eat thereof, thou shall die the death.’ Both Adam & Eve were naked and unashamed.
A serpent more subtle than any beast of the field convinced Eve that eating from the tree of knowledge would not kill her, but instead open her eyes, to be as gods, knowing good and evil. Eve desired the forbidden fruit and did eat of it. She also gave the fruit to Adam, he ate, and both their eyes were opened. They became ashamed of their nakedness and sewed fig leaves as breeches to cover themselves. When they heard God call for them, they became afraid and hid their nakedness in the trees. God knew they had eaten of the tree, asking who told you that you were naked? Adam blamed Eve and Eve blamed the serpent.
To the serpent, God said, because you have done this, you are cursed above all cattle and beast; on your belly you will go and dust you will eat all the days of your life.
“I will put enmity [hostility] between thee and the woman and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head and thou shalt bruise his heel.”
To Eve, He said, I will increase your sorrows and your conceptions; in sorrow you will bring forth children and your desire will be for your husband and he will rule over you.
To Adam, He said, because you obeyed your wife, cursed is the earth for your sake; in sorrow you will eat all the days of your life. Thorns and thistles will be brought forth, and you will eat the herbs of the field; you will eat bread through the sweat of your face until you return to the dust you came from. He made Adam eat from the tree of life so that he may live forever.
God cast them out at the east side of the garden and set the Cherubims and the blade of a sword shaken to keep the way of the tree of life.
Adam and Eve had a son, Cain/Kain, followed by another son, Abel/Habel. Abel kept sheep and Cain tilled the ground. The brothers brought an oblation [a thing presented/offered] to the Lord; Abel with the first fruits of his sheep and the Lord had respect for his offering. Kain offered the fruit of the ground, which the Lord had no regard. Cain became angry and his face fell; God asked why… if you do well, will you not be accepted? If you don’t do well, sin lies at the door, your desire for the subject will rule over you.
Cain spoke with his brother in a field, where he rose up and killed him. God heard the voice of Abel’s blood cry to him from the earth and asked Cain where he was; he replied, “I cannot tell. Am I my brother’s keeper?” God cursed Cain with hard ground for working; he will wander from place to place with no home, a fugitive he would be. He was marked by the Lord, who vowed any man that slay Cain will be punished seven-fold.
Cain lived in the land of Nod, toward the east side of Eden. He and his wife had a son, Enoch/Henoch and named the city they built after him. Enoch had a son, Irad. Irad had a son, Mehuiael. Mehuiael had a son, Methushael, who conceived Lamech.
Lamech had two wives, Adah and Zillah. Adah had two sons; Jabal was the father of tent dwellers and cattle, Jubal was a handler of harps and organs. Zillah had a son named Tubal-kain who was a crafter of iron and brass, and a daughter named Naamah.
Adam was 130 years old when Eve conceived a son, they named Seth. Seth was 105 years old when he had a son, Enosh. Enosh was 90 years old when he had a son, Kenan. Kenan was 70 years old when he had a son, Mahalaleel. Mahalaleel was 65 years old and had a son, Jered. Jered was 162 years old and had a son named, Henoch. Henoch was 65 years old and had a son, Methushelah. Methushelah was 187 years old and had a son, Lamech. Lamech was 182 years and a son, Noah.
Adam died at 930 years old; Seth at 912 years old; Enosh 905 years old; Kenan 910 years old; Mahalaleel 895 years old; Jered 962 years old; Henoch 365 years [he was no more seen, God had taken him away]; Methushelah 969 years old; Lamech 777 years old.
